Students Win National Latin Competition

Ten students from the Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter
School won a number of awards recently at the National Junior Classical
League Convention in North Carolina.

The students were part of a Massachusetts delegation at the competition that seeks to promote the classical cultures, history and literature of the Romans and Greeks.

Amol Punjabi, Tim Morrissey and Katharine Hodge won first place for Massachusetts in the intermediary level in the Certamen trivia competition.

Other highlights of the competition for the school included AMSA’s JCL chapter winning a variety of awards for submitted projects. The club’s newsletter, the Via AMSA, won first place in the publication competition. Tenth grader Elizabeth Teixeira, with help from many other club members, designed a fate-themed scrapbook titled "By a Thread" that won first place in its category.

Rahi Punjabi, Meghana Vagwala, and Amol Punjabi all received perfect scores on the National Latin Exam given at the competition. This was Rahi Punjabi’s third perfect score.
