The Sisters of St. Anne announce the closing of their St. Anne Montessori School in Marlborough. Established just less than 50 years ago, the well-known educational facility will close its doors in June.

"While we are all saddened by this announcement, a combination of ongoing financial challenges faced by families in general, and a steady decline in student enrollment throughout the educational scene, have made necessary this decision to close St. Anne Montessori School," said Sister Joanne Dion, SSA, speaking for the Sisters’ leadership group.

Originally housed at the former St. Anne Academy complex, generations of pre- school children have experienced the Montessori Method at St. Anne School. In 1965, as a sign of the Sisters’ commitment to education, the Montessori school moved to its present location on the Boston Post Road. Sister Dion explained that “this ministry is one that has been very dear to the Sisters of St. Anne. From the outset, our Sisters were the leaders, the teachers and the volunteers with the school. They shared knowledge, care and concern with a legion of energetic youngsters and their parents. Over the years, the running of the school moved into strong collaboration with lay staff, all Montessori Method trained and certified. We remain grateful to our current administrator, Kathleen Finn and her staff, who have continued the mission and ministry of the Sisters at St. Anne School."

A Thank You event is being organized by a volunteer group of St. Anne School parents. They invite all former and current students and families to attend an Appreciation Picnic for the Staff and Administration of the school on Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 11:30 am – 2 pm at the Harold E Fay Memorial Field and Playground located at Central Street, Southborough, MA. An informal presentation will take place at 12:30 pm during the event. For additional information or to RSVP for the picnic, contact Juli Hodi through boneyhodi@yahoo.com (781) 608-7999.
