Smooth First Day of School in Marlborough

Parents, teachers and staff have a smooth first day of school in Marlborough.

Students filtered into Marlborough School's today as teacher's and administrators attempted to make the transition as smooth as possible.

"They are excited to get in there and get into it today," said Parent Pam VanBuskirk outside of Jaworek Elementary School.

VanBuskirk and Melissa Labarre praised the open door day the previous day as easing the transition back to school. By seeing their friends the day before and getting a lay of the land, it made the first day back much easier, said Labarre.

"The kids were excited to start the school year," she said.

Having that time eased the transition for teachers as well, said Tina Adamson and Cathy McNeil set up their kindergarten classroom. They had the opportunity to meet the students the previous day. Having parents accompany the kindergarten students on the bus for orientation also eases students and parents into school.

"A lot of the kids came yesterday to look around ... they seem like a very sweet group," said Adamson.

The first day was going smoothly at the Whitcomb Middle School as well. All the buses and drop-offs were complete before schedule, said Principal Mary Murphy.

"Things are going great," said Seventh Grade Assistant Principal Bethany Prichard who was looking forward to having the new group of fifth graders at the school. "This year, we have new fresh, smiling faces."
