principal Mary Murphy sent out a school-wide email Wednesday alerting families to the unexpected death of a sixth-grade student.
Twelve-year-old Shae Ferrera died of what are believed to be natural causes.
"Any death is difficult to understand," said Murphy. "Shea’s death is particularly difficult due to her young age and its unexpectedness."
Murphy asked parents to take time to speak with their children about the news.
"Our school community will be discussing this great loss in classrooms on Monday morning, she said. "Additionally, our Crisis Team—including guidance counselors, school adjustment counselors and school psychologists—will be on hand during school hours throughout next week to help students and parents who need assistance."
In the interim, officials told those grieving they could visit guidance or adjustment counselors at the school Friday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established at for those who wish to express their support through donations. Call the Bank or visit any location and say you would like to make a donation in the name of Shae Ferrera.
