No Jobs Lost in School Budget Cut

School officials cut next year's budget by $250,000 without losing any personnel.

No jobs will be lost from a $250,000 reduction in the 2014 school district budget.

School officials have found savings in response to $250,000 in cuts made by the City Council to the previously proposed $55.3 million school district budget. The savings will include a reduction in utilities, a phone bill reduction, and additional tuition payment, according to district officials.

The cuts by the City Council came following a vote by the Finance Committee voted for the cut citing an 8.7 percent increase over the previous year. School officials had previously said they would wait until surplus figures for the current school year were available in June until any cuts were assigned for the budget.
