Marlborough Student Wins National Film Award

A Marlborough high schooler has won a National Film award for his film "Thornbrush."

A short film created by Joel Wilner, an 11th grader at the Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School and a resident of Marlborough, won an award at the sixteenth annual Green Mountain Film Festival in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.

Wilner's film "Thornbush" (which can be seen here) won Best Dramatic film in the 2013 Catamount Arts' High School Filmmakers Showcase. The film competed against numerous film entries submitted by teens from the U.S., Canada and other countries. Teens were invited to submit film works in the competitive categories of Comedy, Drama, Documentary and Experimental Films.

Wilner wrote, filmed and edited his dramatic work through the School of Cinema and Performing Arts (SOCAPA). His film was also recognized as a winner of a 2013 Scholastic Art & Writing Award Silver Medal in Film and Animation.
