Marlborough Schools to Host Community Meetings on Cyber-Bullying, Internet Safety

The school system will present two community forums in the next six weeks on cyber-bullying, youth depression and internet safety.

Editor's Note: the following is a release from Marlborough Public Schools.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, we will host a presentation in the Whitcomb Auditorium entitled “Cyber Safety From A Forensic Perspective: Sexting, Texting and Child Predators.” The presentation is being sponsored by the Marlborough Public Schools, the Whitcomb School PTO, and the Middlesex Partnerships for Youth. It is free and open to any Marlborough parent/adult. Children should not attend as some of the presentation may be inappropriate for them. The presentation will include a resource handout, and MPS staff will be on hand afterward to help with resources and answer questions.

At 7 p.m. Monday, March 3, the Marlborough Public Schools will present “Bullying, Cyberbullying & Youth Depression.” This presentation for parents/guardians of students grades PK-12 (and other interested adults) is also known as “Ryan’s Story.” The father of Ryan Halligan, a 13-year-old who was bullied so cruelly and systematically that he committed suicide, will speak of his family’s experience with teachers, parents, community youth workers and other adults. Included in the presentation will be strategies for prevention. It also is a free event, thanks to a generous grant from the Marlborough Brigham Family Trust.
