assistant principal Adam Bakr confirmed Friday that he has been fired from the Marlborough Public School system.

Rumors of the firing were rampant on Thursday, but did not respond to a request for confirmation. Bakr himself confirmed that he was no longer with the district in a post on the Facebook page "Bring Bakr Back" early Friday morning.

"On behalf of my family and myself, I just wanted to thank everyone—staff, students, parents, friends, and community members—who have shown their support for me over the past four months," said Bakr. "I am humbled by your kind words and selfless actions. Your courage and your tireless efforts will never be forgotten. Students and alum of MHS—please know that I will always be cheering you on...no matter where I am or where you go. I will forever bleed black and orange. Now, go do your homework—and remember to always give the world your very best! Go Panthers!"

"It is official, Mr. Bakr has been fired," said a post that also called for the removal of Pope as the superintendent of schools. A link was posted on the page to a petition that is to be submitted  for the school chief's removal.

"Everyone wear your BBB (Bring Bakr Back) shirts tomorrow," said the page organizer. "Teachers will be wearing their own shirts tomorrow as well. Although Mr.Bakr is fired, he can now do what he must to come back. Now that he is out of the system, he can and most likely will do something about his firing."

Bakr's own Facebook page indicated that he had changed his employment status to reflect the fact that he was no long with the district.

A source, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals, said Friday that a silent walk to City Hall had been planned by students, but was canceled after Pope made a visit to the high school and demanded that it be stopped.
