Athlete of the Week: Alexa Fearing
The recent Marlborough High graduate believes that the key to a successful season is training hard and staying focused.

"My favorite thing about track is the individual aspect of the sport," said Fearing, "Being able to take full accountability for how well you perform is so much different from other sports. In track, the athlete has total control over how well they do. I enjoy knowing that the hard work that I put in will be directly reflected in my performance."
Fearing joined the Marlborough High track program when she was in eighth grade. She is also a member of the .

Stats: Fearing’s personal record for indoor shot put is 36 ft 11.5 in which is also the school record. Her best outdoor shot put distance is 36 ft 9 in and discus throw 114 ft 8 in. In her sophomore year, she was named league all-star in indoor and outdoor track and earned this title again in both her junior and senior years.
Fearing was also District Champion and League Champion in her sophomore and junior years in shot-put (indoor track) and chosen for the Telegram and Gazette’s indoor track super team in her sophomore, junior and senior years.
Fearing participated in the indoor track All-State Championships in 2010, 2011 and 2012 in the shot put event and in the outdoor track All-State Championships in 2011 and 2012 for both shot put and discus.
What's next: Fearing is going to start attending the University of Massachusetts at Amherst this fall and plans to study early childhood education. She will be competing on the UMass Minutemen track team.
Highlight: When Fearing was asked to talk about a high point in her athletic life, she told Patch, “Probably the proudest moment in my track career was breaking the school shot put record during this past indoor season,” Fearing shared, “It was a very rewarding feeling knowing that the past five years of training finally paid off."
"It was a special moment because I got to see my coaches, competitors, friends, and family so proud of me," she added, "Everyone knew how badly I wanted to get my name on the record board, and having them witness the school record breaking throw was a big deal for me.”
