Annual March for Miracles a Resounding Success at Assabet High

Assabet Valley coach hosts successful campaign to benefit Children's Hospital in Boston.

Of the many fundraising efforts Frank Ferreer chairs at as part of his role as coach and club advisor, probably one of the most gratifying is the annual March for Miracles, supporting Boston Children’s Hospital.

Each year Ferreer plans a walk around the track at the school on a weekend, and each year the weather has been great. His Student Council students, the National Honor Society, some of the technical programs and sports teams get involved to help the cause. Many of the students work the walk, giving out the T-shirts, manning the concession stand, and handing out water. The Auto Collison Technology students do a little something different as their contribution to the effort, they turn the shop into a large auto detailing operation for two weeks. For only $20, a car was detailed and waxed, and they could have booked three or four weeks at that price!

This year the combined effort at the school totaled $3,620, and all proceeds went directly to the Boston Children’s Hospital.

“Giving back to the community is something we stress here at Assabet Valley, from the clubs, teams, and even the classes and technical programs," said Ferreer. "Raising funds to help the Boston Childrens’ Hospital continue their programs to help young patients and their families acquire the treatment and/or equipment they need, without cost to them, is certainly a worthwhile cause. It’s a privilege to chair this event, and I’m proud of all the students who gave of their time in one way or another. We hope to make this bigger and better each year.

"This year, we had music, food, games, and donated raffle prizes to help raise a bit more. Who knows what ideas the kids will have next year?” Ferreer said with a laugh.
