Upcoming Events Focus on Jobs for Marlborough Residents

The first Marlborough Works job fair is scheduled for June 13.

When he ran for office, Mayor Arthur Vigeant promised city voters he’d try to find ways to put more Marlborough residents to work.

Along with efforts to make the city more attractive to businesses, Vigeant is now working to help connect job-seekers with existing, open positions.

"Attracting and maintaining jobs and businesses in Marlborough is crucial,” . He noted that he was one of the founders of the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation. “I have reached out to businesses wanting to expand within the city and reached out to bring new ones to Marlborough."

The centerpiece of the effort to fill vacant jobs with local workers is the Marlborough Works! Job Fair planned for June 13. Local employers with jobs to fill have been invited to the event, which will be open to the public as well.

Hoping to have job-seekers as prepared as possible to wow employers at the fair, the city has also teamed with Quinsigamond Community College to host a resume and job interview workshop on May 30.

The workshop is designed for both the unemployed and those hoping to land a better job and anyone who attends will be granted early admission to the June 13 job fair. The workshop is limited to 40 participants and the deadline to register is Friday, May 18.

The job fair comes amid an improving economic outlook, with the state’s unemployment rate dropping to 6.5 percent in March.
