Storm Debris Pick-up, Drop-off to be Made Available to Residents

The Marlborough DPW will be collecting storm debris over the next month.

Marlborough's announced Tuesday that over the next four weeks they will traveling around the city in order to remove debris caused by the Oct. 29 "Snowtober" event.

Much of Marlborough was left strewn with downed trees, limbs and power lines after the nor'easter left up to 8 inches of heavy, wet snow on the city.

Curbside collection from private property is set to begin Monday, Nov. 7.

"Wood, limbs and brush must be cut in lengths no greater than six feet and placed in piles that can be easily picked from lawn areas and transferred to the vehicles that will transport the debris," said a release from DPW Commissioner Ron LaFreniere. "Debris may be cut to shorter lengths, but no less than two feet."

The DPW expects to cover the city twice over a four week period, and residents are responsible for getting debris to the street line at the edge of their property. LaFrieniere said the department will not be responsible for the final cleanup of areas where materials are placed, or for minor lawn damage resulting from the pick-up.

Residents are asked to have all debris street-side by Nov. 21 at the latest, as this is when the DPW will begin its final sweep of the area.

Beginning Monday, Nov. 7 until Saturday, Dec. 3, residents may also bring their storm debris to the city's former landfill at 402 Hudson St., between the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

"Residents will be required to place debris materials in designated areas within the landfill and proof of residency will be required and requested by department personnel before any debris may be disposed," said the release.

Questions pertaining to the disposal of storm debris should be directed to the DPW office. Residents are asked to call Marcia Josephson at 508-624-6910, ext. 7200.
