School Committee Member Resigns

A School Committee Member has resigned effective immediately.

The City Council and School Committee will be left to appoint an interim School Committee member following the resignation of Margaret Dwyer.
"Speaking as a mother of four, I would like to acknowledge all of the outstanding teachers and administrators our family has encountered during our time in Marlborough Public Schools," said Dwyer who was unable to be reached for comment in a letter to the City Clerk.
The letter was dated effective July 9. Dwyer went on to say that there have been many positive steps taken by the schools and school district since she was elected in 2007. These include the high school restructuring to improvements at the middle school. She also thanked the mayor and city council for funding the third year of a five year strategic plan.
"I am confident your investment will reap rewards in the most meaningful of ways - increased academic performance of ALL students," said Dwyer.
Dwyer was not up for re-election this coming year, said City Clerk Lisa Thomas. The council and committee will likely come together to elect someone to fill the remaining term of the position, she said.
"More than likely, they will have a joint meeting in which they assign a school committee member," said Thomas.
