National Grid Outage Down to 18 in Marlborough

Marlborough is on track toward full power restoration by Thursday evening.

National Grid reported that just 18 customers were without power in Marlborough as of early afternoon on Thursday.

That number was down from over a 1,000 a day ago, and down 30,000 from the original number of customers without service in Marlborough.

Area canceled for the first two days of the week, but resumed classes Wednesday while several roads remained blocked and some families were out of town due to the power situation.

"I have a wife and two children," said Marlborough resident Sean Pollard. "We were forced to vacate our property on Monday evening as the temperature dipped below 50 degrees farhenheit. We could see our breath in the house from Sunday night on."

Pollard's family left Marlborough until their power was restored Late Wednesday, and during that time they had to split up, staying with various family members.

Despite their inconveniences, pollard said others had it worse in town.

"We are doing ok given the circumstances. We are all staying with loved ones in a warm cozy environment," he said. "Some of my neighbors have it worse. I know of an older couple that have no where to go but a shelter."

National Grid, however, appears to be on track since giving a timeline on Tuesday.

“We know this is a hardship for our customers and we’re grateful for their patience as we work to restore their power. We’re here, we’re on it and we will not stop until everyone has their electricity back,” said Marcy Reed, president of National Grid Massachusetts. “This does not mean that everyone currently without power will have to wait until Thursday. We are restoring service to customers every hour around the clock and most customers will have their power restored before then."

Reed also said there may be a handful of residents that may still be in the dark after Thursday, however.

"The exceptions will be customers located in isolated pockets that present special circumstances, or those who need to make repairs to their homes before we can restore service,” she said.

Comcast outages were also reported during the week.

"At this time it appears the vast majority of problems are related to commercial power outages," said Marc Goodman, a spokesperson for the company. "For most people, service should be restored as power comes back on in their homes. As service comes on, however, we are seeing cases where more extensive damage (to lines and electrical hardware) is causing continued problems. We are going to work until service restored to all customers, and we are working closely with state and local personnel, as well as the power companies."

The City of Marlborough rescheduled trick-or-treating for Thursday evening due to potentially dangerous conditions on night of Halloween. Parents and children will be out on the streets going door-to-door throughout the evening.

Local elections were also held on Tuesday. See coverage .
