Mitt Romney Takes Marlborough's Vote in Presidential Primary

The former Massachusetts governor beat the rest of the field by a large margin.

Hours after the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was declared a win for former governor Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential primary, Marlborough ballots were still trickling in to City Hall. 

Lisa Thomas' office reported that 16.15 percent of registered voters showed up to the polls Tuesday casting a total of 3,332 votes. These unofficial results showed Romney winning every precinct in every ward of the city with a total of 1780.

Rick Santorum took second place with 293 votes. Ron Paul captured the loyalty of 226 Marlborough residents. And Newt Gingrich brought up the rear with 101 votes.

There were even a handful of votes for candidates who had previously suspended their campaigns, including three for Michele Bachmann. 

Paul Ferro was named to the State Republican Committee (man) with 1438 votes, and Jeanne Kangas went unopposed for the open woman's seat.

In the only Democratic race above the local level, Kate Donaghue was elected to the State Committee (woman's seat). James McGowan won the man's seat unopposed.

Though technically unnecessary, 733 Marlborough Democrats voted to support President Barack Obama for re-election.

A total of 402 absentee votes were given.
