Mayoral Election Narrowed Down to Vigeant, Jones

The two candidates made it through the primary on Tuesday and will face each other in the Nov. 1 general election.

With precincts from the city's seven wards reporting the results of the 2011 mayoral preliminary election, Arthur Vigeant and Matthew Jones have finished in first and second place by a narrow margin with the third contestant, James Mosso, finishing a distant third.

With only 11.37 (2,315) percent of the total registered voters hitting the polls today, it didn't take City Clerk Lisa Thomas' office long to tally the votes.

While these results have yet to be certified the initial count indicates that Vigeant has the most votes with 1,188; Jones garnered 1,031 votes; and Mosso collected 78.

In the November 2009 municipal election, 6,123 residents voted, comprising 30.25 percent of the 20,239 registered voters. Noting the figures, Thomas said, "Although that percentage is fairly average for municipal elections, I'd like to see it be higher this year."
