(UPDATE) Hurricane Sandy: Marlborough Info Center

See a tree down in your neighborhood? Notice a road is flooded? Just saw a store clerk upload a pallet of fresh batteries? Use this story on Marlborough Patch to help out your neighbors.

Update: The wind throughout the city is starting to intensify. There have been reports of downed power lines. In one case, a live line was down in front of a home.

If you notice downed power lines, Mayor Arthur Vigeant has asked that you keep as far away from them as possible and immediately report this to the Marlborough Police Department at 508-485-1212.

Stay safe out there. The storm is now expected to continue with intense winds through midnight for the area, according to officials.

National Grid has compiled the following list of steps to take during the storm:

What you should do in severe weather

  • Continue to monitor local media for important information.
  • Consider all downed wires to be energized and dangerous, including telephone, fiber optic and cable TV wires. They may be in contact with energized electric wires that are not within your view.
  • Disconnect sensitive appliances, such as computers, televisions and microwaves, to avoid potential power surge damage when electricity is restored.
  • Keep refrigerator and freezer doors shut-food will stay six to nine hours in a refrigerator without spoiling. Frozen foods will keep about 24 hours.
  • Use generators safely-for detailed information, see the generators section.
  • If your home has flooding, check with an electrician before turning on anything.
  • If you anticipate an extended outage, consider moving yourself and your family - especially those with special needs - to an alternate location.
  • Consider checking on others who may benefit from your assistance.
