Marijuana Decision Still On Hold

A decision on medical marijuana continues to be delayed.

While the Planning Board and a number of City Councilors continue to voice support of a moratorium on marijuana dispensaries until 2014 others want action sooner.

“The department of health has made it very clear that the regulations are in and ready to be enforced," said City Councilor Ohrn. “I’m opposed to extending anything past six months."

The moratorium would extend until June 30 of 2014. It was given a favorable recommendation by the Planning Board in a vote of 5 to 1, according to the council. The moratorium on dispensaries mirrors one recently approved in Burlington and was written up to give the state time to come up with regulations and the city time to establish local guidelines, said officials.

“I live in Marlborough. I don’t want to be a guinea pig," said Councilor Robert Seymore. “There’s no reason to rush into it. We aren’t saying you cant ever do it we are just saying we aren’t going to do it in the next year."

The issue had been tabled until tonight's council meeting.
