Clean Sweep to go Through Marlborough this Saturday

City officials and a slew of volunteers will take the streets this Saturday morning in an annual coordinated cleanup effort.

On Saturday, April 28, the city of Marlborough will conduct its annual city-wide Clean Sweep project to clear trash and debris from some of the highly visible locations throughout Marlborough. Participants include residents, elected officials, civic groups as well as corporate and business representatives.

“Project Clean Sweep is a wonderful way to enjoy the fresh air, get some exercise, and help make our neighborhoods look their best. This is where we work, live, and play and it’s important to take pride in how our city looks,” .

Volunteers are asked to meet at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 28 at the at 135 Neil Street to obtain work assignments, supplies and materials. Extra clean-up items such as gloves are appreciated. Trash bags and “Project Clean Sweep” t-shirts will be provided.

Those unavailable to assist with efforts on the Saturday can participate by sweeping their respective sidewalk areas into the roadside gutter (to assist the Street Sweepers) and picking up litter deposits in their immediate neighborhoods.

If you have a group that wants to clean up an area, but you are not available on April 28, you may call Ken Calder at the at (508) 624-6910, ext. 7300 and let city officials know when and where you’ll be cleaning. We will then arrange to pick up the litter you have collected.

Last year many organizations and companies participated in this effort including the , Raytheon and Boston Scientific to name a few. In addition, more than 300 volunteers worked for three hours collecting 6.5 tons of trash.

Vigeant said he is hopeful for an even greater turnout this year.

“The more volunteers we have, the better our city will look. It’s a great way to meet new people and give back to your community,” he concluded.
