City Council Wants Answers on Cemetery Conditions
Complaints have been raised about the condition of some city cemeteries, especially where veteran's graves are involved.
The state of the city's public cemeteries will be a topic of disucssion when the City Council meets Monday night.
A group of commissioners has asked that the DPW Commissioner appear before the council's Operations and Oversight Committee to "discuss conditions of the city's public cemeteries and concerns expressed by local veterans and other residents."
The council is looking for a review of regular maintanence and repair schedules, a condition update on cemeteries and a rundown of current and future needs. It also wants to review the finances of cemetery upkeep, including possible "monies that may be available from non-public sources to make repairs to veteran's gravestones."
