"Brookview Village" ZBA Vacancy Filled

There remains one open full-time opening for the Zoning Board of Appeals after the City Council approved the reappointment of one member and the appointment of a new alternate member.

“That is one of those thankless jobs, but a very important one,” said Mayor Arthur Vigeant during a Personnel Committee Meeting last week where the pair was recommended for full council approval. “Right now we are missing a couple of seats on the ZBA and we are working at filling those."

The appointments came after two ZBA members resigned following the approval of the "friendly 40B" Brookview Village apartment complex. Councilor and Committee Member Robert Seymour made a point to the two appointees that there is additional scrutiny due to this high profile case.

“I think this year has been a little more difficult and there has been a little more tension because of the difficult decisions that have had to be made," he said.

The council voted to reappoint John Sahagian to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a period of five years.

“I have been a resident of Marlborough for the last 77 years," he said explaining that since the 1970's he has been on the ZBA. “That’s my experience; Almost 40 years.”

Ralph Loftin was appointed as an alternate member for a term of two years. He has lived in the city for seven years and has experience as a commercial arbitrator.

“They are looking forward to having some new members and some new blood," said Mayor Vigeant of the ZBA looking for new members.
