Video: Blizzard 2013 Preparation Underway

The Marlborough DPW spent the day preparing for the impending blizzard.

The Department of Public Works had a full day on their hands Thursday even before a flake fell in the Blizzard of 2013.

“We pull in other portions of our department to make sure their equipment is ready to go," said DPW Commissioner Ronald LaFreniere. “There’s more things we worry about that simply clearing the streets."

The crews spent the day prepping equipment, repairing potholes and filling sand containers throughout the city, said General Foreman of Streets Kenneth Calder. Another one of the priorities was to ensure generators were ready to go in the case of power loss.

“Given the wind we are expecting here and the heavy snowfalls, it gives us concerns including our sewer pumping stations and water pumping stations and our ability to clear the roadways," said LaFreniere.

The pumping stations have approximately two days worth of work available and generators which if they are running properly will ensure a seamless transition.
