5 Things You Need to Know Today: Aug. 18

Here is a list of things going on in and around Marlborough today.

1. The National Weather Service says there is a slight chance all sorts of things today, but it should also be mostly-sunny with a high of 86 degrees. 

2. Wegmans is looking to fill over 400 part-time and full-time positions at its new 138,000 sq. ft. store, set to open on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011 in Northborough Crossing, a development at the intersection of Routes 9 and 20. Final open interview sessions are being held Aug. 23-24 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 227 Turnpike Road, Westborough (Regal Cinema Plaza). Call 508-366-2863 to schedule your interview. Walk-ins are also welcome. Positions are reportedly filling quickly so candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

3. Verizon Wireless has announced they are bringing the 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to Marlborough beginning today. "Customers with 4G LTE smartphones, tablets, laptop modems and mobile hotspots will be able to take advantage of speeds up to 10 times faster than before," said a release. 4. On Friday, Aug. 19, the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce will host the next installment in their Professional Development Series: Social Security, What Do You Really Know About It? Do you have questions or concerns regarding Social Security? If so, join them for an informational presentation by Stephen P. Richardson, Regional Public Affairs Specialist from SS Administration & the Office of the Regional Commissioner. The event will be held in the Chamber Conference Room, 11 Florence St., from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch). Cost is $15 per person.

5. There will be a second installment of the 's adult book club today. Visit this local resource tonight at 6:30 p.m. to discuss Anita Shreve's book "The Weight of Water".
