Worcester Man Faces Rape, Kidnapping Charges in Marlborough

The Marlborough Police Department arrested a 36-year-old Worcester man Tuesday evening, after he sexually assaulted and held a local woman captive in her own home.

responded to a 911 call at a Central St. apartment Tuesday evening, to find that a woman had been sexually assaulted and held against her will.

Officers discovered Jeffrey A. Butler, 36, of 40 Melbourne St., Worcester, in apartment 1A of the building holding the unnamed victim. 

"A domestic incident transpired involving an individual who had an active abuse prevention order against him," said Detective Martha Shea. "A sexual assault was reported to officers, and the suspect was combative towards them (the police) as he was being taken into custody."

Butler was charged with violating an abuse prevention order, aggravated rape, breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, impeding an investigation through witness intimidation, kidnapping, assault and battery, resisting arrest, possession to distribute drug paraphernalia, assault, assault and battery on a police officer and vandalizing property.

The kidnapping and witness intimidation charges stemmed from the fact that Butler held the victim against her will in the apartment, and stopped her from calling the police by smashing her phone, said Shea, adding that a third party made the 911 call.

Police did not immediately know if or where the victim was hospitalized. 

Police revealed that the drug charges stemmed from the suspect having a hypodermic needle in his possession, but declined to further comment on that particular item.

Butler was scheduled to face charges in Wednesday.
