Weather Service Issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning

The National Weather Service says Marlborough is at risk of isolated, severe storms Friday afternoon.

With thunder rumbling around the outskirts of the city, Marlborough is at risk of getting hit by a severe thunderstorm with large, damaging hail possible, says the National Weather Service.

All of Middlesex and Worcester counties are inside the affected area and NWS is asking people to take cover as soon as possible.

"An isolated strong to severe thunderstorm or two with hail is possible this afternoon and/or early this evening," said a release. "In addition, any storm that develops will move slow and may result in very isolated and localized flooding."

The NWS did not mince words concerning safety procedures that should be utilized in the event of a storm.

"Severe thunderstorms produce damaging winds and large hail, as well as deadly lightning and torrential rain," said a release. "Get to safe shelter now, inside a sturdy building or in a vehicle. Do not seek shelter under trees. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Drivers should be alert for ponding of water and avoid flooded roads."
