Weather Service, Fire Department Warns Public of Fire Danger

The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a red flag fire warning for Marlborough and most of Middlesex County. The warning is in effect through 8 p.m., Friday.

"Above normal temperatures, very low relative humidity and winds gusting between 25 and 30 miles per hour and little to no rain over the last two weeks will result in critical fire weather conditions this afternoon," said a release. 

Residents are advised to be very careful when disposing of ignited materials such as cigarettes, as any spark could get quickly out of control. 

"Everything is drying out, said acting fire chief Stanley Clement of the . "When the materials are dryer everything ignites easier. You'll see these types of conditions advertise until we get some wet weather." 

Clement added that all burning must be done with the use of a permit and people must use safe practices when doing so. 

The NWS agreed.

"With conditions exceeding critical fire weather thresholds and dry surface fuels, any grass or brush fires that ignite could spread and become out of control rapidly."
