Volkswagon Strikes Framingham Police Officer and Cruiser; Driver Arrested in Marlborough

Framingham Police were searching for a red Volkswagon with a Pennsylvania license plate, after it struck a Framingham officer and a cruiser Wednesday night.

Framingham Police were searching for a red Volkswagon with Pennsylvania license plates (JHG3580) Wednesday night, after the driver of the vehicle struck one of its officers and a Framingham cruiser.

The vehicle, a rental car, was found in Marlborough after 9 p.m.

Framingham Police Lt. Ron Brandolini said the male driver was arrested in Marlborough and charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon (his vehicle) and various other motor vehicle charges. His name was not available at 9:40 p.m.

A female in the vehicle was later found walking in Southborough, said Brandolini. She is being questioned by police at the Framingham Police Station, said Brandolini.

Framingham Police tried to question the driver of the red Volkswagon on Highland Street when the driver struck the police officer with his vehicle and took off. The officer was knocked down and suffered minor injuries, said Brandolini.

The Volkswagon was then spotted near Country Club Lane near Route 9, where it hit a Framingham Police cruiser, said Brandolini. The cruiser has minor damage and the police officer was not injured. The Volkswagon fled the area.

It is unknown, at this time, why Framingham Police stopped the driver of the Volkswagon originally.
