Updated: Shrewsbury Man Killed in Early Morning Accident Near Marlborough

An accident on Rt. 290 E near Marlborough took the life of a Shrewsbury man.

A Shrewsbury man died this morning when his pickup truck collided with a tree off I-290 near the Church Street exit in Northborough, state police said. Russell Eaton, 46, of Shrewsbury was pronounced dead at the scene.

At 6:30 a.m. this morning, troopers from theMassachusetts State Police barracks in Holden responded to the crash on Route 290 eastbound in Northborough. Eaton was the only occupant of the vehicle, police said.

A preliminary investigation by Trooper Sean Healy showed that the 2004 GMC pickup truck operated by Eaton was travelling east at a high rate of speed when he veered off into a tree. The investigation also indicated no signs that Eaton applied his breaks, said police in a press release.

 The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation, said police, by Troop C of the Massachusetts State Police, with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were also assisted at the scene by the and the State Medical Examiner’s office.
