Tractor Trailer Clips Telephone Pole at Elm and Dudley

A tractor trailer truck snapped a telephone pole at the corner of Elm and East Dudley Wednesday morning, and then was pulled over on Route 20 westbound after leaving the scene of the crash.

The , and National Grid were on the scene of a crash at the corner of Elm and East Dudley streets late Wednesday morning. 

Shortly after 11 a.m., scanner reports indicated that a tractor trailer truck had compromised a telephone poll. A witness to the accident called police and followed the truck that struck the poll after it left the scene. Officers stopped the vehicle on Route 20 westbound at some point beyond the plaza. 

Det. Scott DeCiero said police do not make arrests for the leaving the scene of an accident, and nothing more than a citation was issued to the driver.

As of this post, the affected intersections include: Elm Street at Millham Street; Millham Street at Dudley Street; Elm Street at Boundry Street; and Dudley Street at E.Dudley Street. 

Mayor Arthur Vigeant's office recommended motorists avoid the area throughout the during of the work, asking residents to plan according and thanked them for their patience.

National Grid is in the process of replacing the poll. No power outages had been reported as of this post. 

Fire officials said that the wires, though not broken, are very dangerous and should not be approached as they are under a great deal of stress.
