Sobriety Checkpoints Saturday for Worcester County

The Massachusetts State Police announced recently that they will be setting up sobriety checkpoints this weekend in Worcester county.

The Massachusetts State Police announced recently that they will be conducting more sobriety checkpoints on public roadways in Worcester County Saturday evening. Marlborough on the border of Worcester County, and travelers could therefore be subject the checks. 

"The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," said Colonel Marian J. McGovern, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, in a press release. "It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."

The Worcester checkpoints will be in operation Saturday night, June 4 into Sunday morning, June 5.

The sobriety checkpoints are put in place thanks to a grant from the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
