Around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, police scanner traffic reported a major crash in Marlborough involving a tractor-trailer truck and two other vehicles in the vicinity of I-495 southbound north of exit 25 (I-290).
The Massachusetts State Police, along with local rescue crews are on the scene.
"The facts and circumstances of the crash, as well as the sequence of events, remain under investigation by Troop C of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section," said a release.
The three vehicles involved in the crash are a Freightliner tractor hauling a Grumman trailer, a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle and a Ford pickup truck, said police.
Serious injuries have been initially reported, and a Lifeflight helicopter transported one operator to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center with potential serious injuries. All lanes of traffic on I-495 southbound were closed to accommodate the landing of the helicopter; there is no word as to whether or not any lanes have reopened.
