UPDATE: Police, Bank Issue Statements Concerning Marlborough Robbery

Officers are on the scene of a suspected bank robbery at the Boston Post Road East branch of the Marlborough Savings Bank.

UPDATE, 4 p.m.: A representative of Marlborough Savings Bank said that the Boston Post Road East branch of the business will remain closed for the remainder of Friday, Dec. 23. The bank's main office at 81 Granger Blvd. will remain open until 7 p.m. Friday to help serve affected customers. 

All bank branches will resume normal hours on Christmas Eve, Saturday, Dec. 24.

Police transmissions reported a bank robbery at the Boston Post Road East branch of  Friday morning and the suspect is still at large. 

The  was on the scene late Friday morning and detectives were searching the area for evidence and speaking with employees inside the bank.

MPD issued a statement just before noon.

"On Friday Dec. 23, 2011 at 09:51 a.m., Marlborough Savings Bank at 71 Boston Post Rd. E. reported being robbed, said Lieutenant Michael Amoros. "The suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. He fled the scene in a grey colored vehicle heading west on Peters Ave towards Cook Lane. He is described as a black male, wearing a grey hooded sweat shirt with a baseball cap underneath."    

A representative of Marlborough Savings Bank said the branch is closed and will remain so for the time being. 

"The most important thing is that our staff is safe and unharmed," said Ellen Dorian, a senior vice president with the company. "As of now, I do not have any further details. The branch will remain closed until the police have completed their investigation. All of our other branches are open for business. The Granger Boulevard and Sudbury locations are the closet branches to assist customers who typically visit our Post Road branch."
