Pets Killed in West Main Street Fire, Five People Sent to Hospital

office reported late Monday that though there were no human casualties in the , several pets were killed. 

The one tenant hospitalization was due to a cat owner becoming distraught after realizing his pets were trapped in the burning building, said fire chief James Fortin and the mayor's office.

"There were no human casualties, though several pets were lost," said a release from Vigeant's office. "There are also no life-threatening injuries being reported for either residents or emergency personnel, although four firefighters were transported to the hospital for what were expected to be minor injuries."

Vigeant praised the efforts of the for their quick response in containing the blaze and executing a swift evacuation.

“The most important thing to report is that there was no loss of life and we are all very grateful for that,” he said. “Our fire department, once again, did a great job containing what was a very difficult and challenging situation.”

He was also effusive in his praise of the , , as well as the numerous neighboring communities that aided in the emergency response efforts, said the release. 

As of late Monday night, the American Red Cross continued to run human service operations out of the . All affected residents were asked to check in personally with the Red Cross at the locale, or call 508-485-6492. 

As of this post, no word had been given by City Hall or the Red Cross pertaining to donation opportunities for residents wanting to aid those displaced by the fire.
