Officer Involved in Shooting Back on Duty
The Marlborough Police Officer whose actions were being investigated following a police-involved shooting has returned to active duty.
Marlborough Police Officer Soren Levenson, who has been on paid administrative leave since the fatal shooting of Bryce Coutinho in November, returned to active duty last week, according to police officials.
Levenson was placed on leave, following standard protocol, during an investigation by multiple agencies of the fatal November 12 shooting. The findings that the shooting was justifiable was announced yesterday by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.
The decision to have Levenson return to active duty was a combination of a number of factors, including his well-being, said police officials.

According to the findings of the District Attorney's investigation, Levenson fired his service firearm twice after Coutinho — who had a previous arrest on assault and battery charges and was reportedly on medication for mental health issues — had approached within 5 to 6 feet of the officer in a menacing manner with a knife. Police attempted to resuscitate Coutinho after the shooting, but he died at the scene.
