Marlborough Woman Set on Fire, Boyfriend Charged with Attempted Murder

Late Saturday evening, police received a call from a woman who had been set on fire after a domestic argument.

State Police fielded a disturbing 911 phone call late Saturday evening, and the , along with local rescue services, responded to the call in which a local woman claimed she had been set on fire by her boyfriend.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., police responded to 51 Liberty St. and found the victim had received second and third degree burns to her back, arms and hands, after her boyfriend intentionally poured a chemical accelerant on her during a domestic argument then proceeded to light her on fire, police said. 

The victim was treated at the scene and then transported to Umass Worcester with second and third degree burns.

According to a press release from MPD, the investigation into the incident led police to Edouardo Pierre Charles, 28, of 51 Liberty St., who was located and placed under arrest. 

He has been charged with intent to murder, mayhem, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and resisting arrest, said police.

Charles is expected to appear in Monday morning.

The victim's condition is unknown at this time, but Marlborough Patch has contacted the hospital concerning her status.
