Marlborough Street Fight Takes 3 Police Departments to Break Up

A Marlborough police officer was assaulted while trying to break up a street fight.

It took three police departments to break up a street fight in Marlborough over the weekend.

"There were approximately 15 or more people running around, yelling and screaming and grabbing at the officers involved," Officer David Priest wrote in his police report. "This was a very volatile situation that appeared to be getting out of control."

Police arrived at Bolton Street at around 10 p.m. Sunday night to break up a reported street fight. They found upwards of 15 intoxicated people in the street, according to the police report. As police attempted to break up the crowd, Priest was allegedly shoved from behind by Jose Ceja Gavilan, 45, of 130 Bolton Street Apt. 2.

When police attempted to restrain him, he resisted according to the police report and attempted to grab Priest's legs. He was eventually restrained and arrested, according to court documents.

The crowd was not dispersed until police officers from Sudbury and Hudson arrived at the scene, according to the police report.

Gavilan was arraigned Monday on charges of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
