Marlborough Police Arrest 19-year-old on Assault to Murder, Assault Charges

Juan M. Ortiz Jr., 19, is accused of choking a woman in a domestic assault.

Marlborough Police have charged a 19-year-old resident of a city hotel with assault to murder, after he reportedly strangled a woman companion with his hands to the point where she lost consciousness.

Juan M. Ortiz, Jr., of 181 Boston Post Road West, room 234, Marlborough, was arrested by police following the reported assault in a room at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel, according to Marlborough Police detective Scott DeCiero, a police spokesman.

Ortiz is charged with felony assault to murder and assault and battery, a misdemeanor.

The woman was taken to an area hospital. Her condition was not clear.

The assault was reported initially as a disturbance at the hotel, about 1:07 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Marlborough police log. Ortiz is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at Marlborough District Court.
