Marlborough Man Charged with Armed Kidnapping, Assault of 20-Year-Old in Revere

Jean Doresca, 26, is accused of forcing a woman at gunpoint into his Jaguar.

Editor's note: The following press release was issued by the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office on Friday.

A Marlborough man was charged with kidnapping and related charges yesterday for allegedly forcing a Revere woman into his Jaguar at the point of a gun, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Jean Doresca, 26, was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on charges of armed kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, witness intimidation, and a violating a municipal ordinance violation against carrying a knife with a blade longer than 2½ inches.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Lafleur requested that bail be set in the amount of $20,000 and that an order be entered protecting the victim’s personal identifying information. Judge Benjamin Barnes declined to impose monetary bail and released Doresca on his own recognizance with orders to stay away and have no contact with the victim. He did not issue the protective order.

Doresca was not charged with unlawful possession of a firearm because he had a valid license to carry the Kahr CM9 9mm semiautomatic handgun he allegedly pointed at the victim and the Ishapore .308 caliber rifle recovered from his car. Both of those weapons were seized, however.

According to prosecutors, a Revere police officer noticed two vehicles approaching his marked cruiser from behind at approximately 11:30 Wednesday night. When the officer brought his marked cruiser to a stop at the intersection of Constitution Avenue and Adams Street, one vehicle — a red 2010 Jaguar driven by Doresca — continued at a high rate of speed before coming to an abrupt stop close to the cruiser’s bumper, prosecutors said. The second vehicle came to a stop next to the Jaguar and the driver exited the vehicle. He told the officer that Doresca had pointed a gun at his daughter and attempted to force her into prostitution, prosecutors said.

After complying with a police command to exit his car, Doresca informed police that he was carrying both a knife and a gun, which he claimed was unloaded.  Police discovered that the handgun in his jacket pocket was fully loaded and also found the bolt-action rifle locked in the car’s trunk along with a box of 9 mm ammunition, prosecutors said.

The 20-year-old victim, who was in the vehicle with her father, told police that she had never seen Doresca before that day and that she approached his vehicle while walking on Broadway after Doresca asked her a question about a nearby car crash.  She reported to police that Doresca pointed a handgun at her and instructed her to get in the car, prosecutors said.

At one point, as Doresca drove the victim through Revere and Chelsea, the defendant took the victim’s phone but returned it upon hearing that the victim’s father would call police if she did not answer when he called, prosecutors said. The victim also alleged that Doresca told her that she would have to work for him as a prostitute, prosecutors said. The victim was able to secretly text her father for help and was released near her home; text messages reviewed by officers suggested that the victim had texted her father asking urgently for help.

Doresca provided police with a very different account of the events.  He allegedly told police that a relative had suggested he meet the victim and that he picked the victim up and drove her to Hyde Park at her request before driving her home, prosecutors said.

He allegedly told police that he had never shown the handgun to the victim, but the woman was able to describe the weapon accurately to police, prosecutors said.

Doresca is represented by [Boston criminal defense attorney] Francisco Napolitano.  He will return to court on Dec. 23.
