Marlborough Man Arrested on Fifth DUI Charge

A Marlborough man was arrested for his fourth DUI Wednesday.

A Marlborough man was arrested shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday for his fifth DUI after his fast driving attracted the attention of the police.

“The officer observed the vehicle Mr. Hannan was in turn onto Ash Street at a high rate of speed and accelerate," said Detective Scott DeCiero of the Community Services Bureau of the Marlborough Police Department.

Police followed the car driven by a man later identified as Jay Hannan, 50, of 76 Huntington Ave. Apt. 1. Police were able to catch up to the vehicle — which they estimated to be traveling at 50 mph in a 25 mph zone, said Det. DeCiero. The vehicle eventually came to a stop — after stopping and then driving off — and officers approached it.

“They detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle," said DeCiero. "He refused commands to exit the vehicle and had to be physically removed from the vehicle.”

Hannan's speech was slurred and he was visibly intoxicated, said DeCiero. He was placed under arrest and charged with 5th offence or greater for operating under the influence of liquor, speeding in violation of a special regulation, failing to stop for police, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, a subsequent offence of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and resisting arrest.
