Marlborough Man Arrested on Assault, Gun Charges

The Marlborough Police Department had a very busy day Friday, including the arrest of a local man on a litany of charges.

What began as an ambulance assist late Friday morning to help control an unruly individual, ended up netting the an arrest for an illegal gun, drugs, and assault and battery. 

Matthew Paul Ladden, 30, of 16 Dirado Dr., was at his home after officers were dispatched to the report of a male acting "out of control," said Detective Martha Shea, of the MPD. "The reporting party said she was assaulted by Ladden, and while the officers were in the house they noticed that among his possessions were a .25-caliber  handgun loaded with three bullets, a box of .40-caliber ammunition, and he was in possession of three prescription drugs that were not prescribed to him."

Upon further inspection of the firearm it was determined that the serial numbers appeared to be filed away.

Ladden was booked on charges of assault and battery, several counts of possession of a firearm/ammunition without a license, defacing a firearm serial number, three counts of possessing a Class C substance, and a civil charge of possessing marijuana. 

There was no evidence that Ladden had any intent to distribute the drugs in his possession.
