Police arrested a Marlborough man Wednesday night after he allegedly hit a police officer and cruiser and drove off.

Nelson Loaiza, 26, of 28 Briarwood Rd. of Marlborough was arrested in Marlborough at 10 p.m. Wednesday night. He was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (vehicle), resisting arrest, leaving the scene of a crash, assault on a police officer, driving to endanger, operating a motor vehicle after suspension of license, using a vehicle without permission, refusing to stop for a police officer and refusing to give police license and registration.

The search for a rental, red Volkswagen driven by Loaiza began around 8:30 p.m. when Loaiza reportedly struck a Framingham officer and cruiser after police attempted to question him on Highland Street in Framingham.

The Volkswagon was then spotted near Country Club Lane near Route 9, where it hit a Framingham Police cruiser, said Brandolini. The cruiser has minor damage and the police officer was not injured. The Volkswagon fled the area.

It is unknown, at this time, why Framingham Police stopped the driver of the Volkswagon originally.
