Marlborough Man, 52, Held Without Bail, Charged in Box Cutter Assault

A dangerousness hearing will be held on Dec. 24 for Jose Dearmas, 52, of Marlborough.

A 52-year-old Marlborough man is being held without bail, charged with stabbing two people with a box cutter, as well as choking his ex-girlfriend and hitting her with a beer bottle.

Jose A. Dearmas, 52, of 153 Broad St., Apt. 2, Marlborough was arrested and charged Thursday with three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, one count of assault to murder, and one count of assault and battery, according to police.

In an arraignment Friday, District Judge David Locke ordered him held until a dangerousness hearing on Dec. 24.

According to a statement filed in court by Marlborough officer Timothy Harpin, police responded to an apartment building on Broad Street about 10 p.m. Thursday, where a woman reported she had been cut by her former boyfriend with a box cutter razor.

She was one of two victims, police said. A male victim had a deep cut on his forearm, while the woman had a more superficial cut on her arm. The man was injured after he tried to intervene when Dearmas began assaulting the woman, according to the police statement.

The woman said Dearmas had tried to strangle her with his hands, to the point where she had difficulty breathing, and then hit her with a 40-ounce beer bottle. He also threatened to kill her, police said.

Both victims were taken Thursday to Marlborough Hospital for treatment.
