Man Accused of Shoving Woman Down Stairs Gets Bail

A man accused of causing a woman to lose a baby has been released on $1,000 bail.

A man who has been accused of causing nerve damage to a woman’s hand and throwing her down a set of stairs — causing her to lose a baby — has been released on $1,000 bail.

“She had a home pregnancy test when she told him that she was pregnant he threw her down a flight of stairs causing her to lose the child,” wrote Marlborough Police Officer James O’Malley in his police report of a statement given by a Marlborough woman to police.

The woman came to the police department earlier in the week to report instances of past abuse by a former boyfriend of 5 years that police charged as Carlucio Rocha Chaves, 34, of 159 West Main Street Apt. 1 but later identified through fingerprints as Rogerio Luiz De Oliveira, according to court records. She told police that during a recent visit to get a license plate back from Chaves, he hit her in the face and then closed a door on her hand, causing nerve damage, according to the police report.

“Mr. Chaves allegedly told (the woman) that if she called the police on him he would kill her son and parents in Brazil,” wrote O’Malley. “This was not the first time he has made such threats.”

At this time, the woman described other abuse from throughout the years, including an incident in which she said she lost a child.
