Lines Downed by Wind

Officials are urging residents to remain indoors as the intensity of Hurricane Sandy picks up in Marlborough.

Things are beginning to intensify outside. Readers are reporting power outtages and the Fire Department is responding to downed lines.

"We have had a few lines down," said Fire Chief James Fortin who explained the brunt of the storm is expected to hit between 2 p.m. and midnight with 50 to 60 mile per hour winds.

A downed line in front of a home was found to be a live wire earlier today, he said. The utility company responded promptly, avoiding an incident that could have lead to a house fire, said Chief Fortin.

Officials continue to remind people to stay indoors. The City Council has even canceled tonights meeting. Solomon Pond Mall closed at 12:30 p.m. with updates to come on whether and when it will open tomorrow.

We encourage you to stay indoors. If you get the itch to see what the weather is like around town, we have provided a video that will hopefully scratch that itch long enough until it is safe to go outside.
