UPDATED: Home Fire on Gay Street

The Marlborough Fire Department fought an open blaze on Gay Street this morning, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The fought a fire on Gay Street this morning that displaced 8 Marlborough residents.

At 7:38 a.m. this morning, police and fire crews responded to a two story, wood-framed 37 Gay Street location where they fought down a large blaze on the second floor. Cause is still unknown, said Deputy Ron Ayotte of the MFD. State fire marshals, the MFD fire investigations unit, and the are still investigating the cause of the fire that required the response of 3 engines, a ladder truck. Chief Ricky Plummer also responded to the scene. 

The fire broke out in a second floor loft area, said Ayotte, and the department was given mutual aid by Southborough and Hudson fire crews to cover city stations.

No injuries were reported, according to Ayotte, but between fire and water damages, estimates for repair are projected at around $60,000.

A total of 8 residents were displaced by the fire, as the home is not habitable due to the damages, said a press release issued by the MFD. The Red Cross is assisting the residents in finding temporary housing.
