Heat Wave to Hit Marlborough, Watch Issued

The National Weather Service has issued a heat watch for Thursday and Friday and expect temperatures in the region to reach the upper-90s.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for residents of most of Eastern Massachusetts for Thursday and Friday.

According to the weather service website, afternoon temperatures on Thursday and Friday are expected to be from 95 to 100 degrees, with a heat index of up to 105 degrees.

The hottest hours will fall between noon and 8 p.m.

The weather service advises that excessive heat may lead to heat illnesses in children, the elderly and those performing "strenuous physical activity."

According to its website: At these temperatures and humidity levels, people should know that heat illnesses are possible.

People should wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Avoid prolonged exposure in the sun and try to stay in an air-conditioned environment.

Anyone who is overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location immediately. Call 911 if you suspect heat stroke, which can be fatal.
