Former Resident Gets Probation on Child Porn Charges

Now of Leominster, Paul Proulx will spend the first six months of his sentence under house arrest.

A former Marlborough resident was sentenced today in federal court for possession of child pornography.

Paul Proulx, 28, now of Leominster, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Joseph L. Tauro to five years probation, the first six months to be served on home confinement. The government recommended Proulx be sentenced to 33 months in prison.

On Nov. 2, 2011, Proulx pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography. At that time the prosecutor told the court that had the case proceeded to trial the government’s evidence would have proven that Proulx possessed images containing visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the . The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael I. Yoon of the Major Crimes Unit in the federal prosecutor's office.

The case was brought forward as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. "Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as to identify and rescue victims," according to a press release.
