Fire Department Cuts Down Brush Fires, Deals with Suspicious Powder

The Marlborough Fire Department cut down several brush fires and responded to a report of a suspicious white powder at the Marlborough Police Department.

The was busy Tuesday with several potentially serious calls.

Mid-afternoon, a detective reported receiving a letter in the mail that contained a suspicious white powder. Marlborough fire crews in addition to the Department of Fire Services District 3 hazmat team responded to the Bolton Street police headquarters to investigate the substance, said a report in the Community Advocate.

Fire Chief James Fortin in addition to agents from the FBI field office in Boston responded to the scene as well, said a release. Though the substance was deemed to be innocuous at the scene, a sample was sent to the State Department of Public Health for further analysis.

No official word was given as to the cause of the fires,
