Feb. 6-19: Fire Department Responds to Building Collapse and Home Fire

Here is an accounting of every call the Marlborough Fire Department responded to over the past two weeks.

The following are the responses from Feb. 6th to Feb. 19th , 2011

  • Fire/CO responses: 73
  • EMS/Rescue Responses: 130
  • MVA responses: 14
  • Hazardous Condition responses: 30
  • Public service/Special responses: 30
  • MFD Incident responses through February 19th: 967. That total is 197 calls ahead of 2010’s  pace.

The is still responding to weather related calls. Many of the incidents were for water problems caused by ice dams and natural gas incidents caused by ice and snow buildup on the meters, causing them to leak. There were also several weakened structure calls due to the snow buildup on roofs. 

  • Incident #2011-707: There was a partial building collapse at Aaphouser Incorporated, 40 Hayed Memorial Dr. as a result of the weight of the snow and ice on the roof of the loading dock area.
  • Incident #2011-726: The barn at the vacant structure at 126 Pleasant St.collapsed due the snow on the roof.
  • Incident #2011-774: Engine 3 responded to a reported Hazmat release at Raytheon, 1001 Boston Post Rd. E. 
  • Incident #2011-778: Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3,  Ladder 2, Rescue 1, Car 1 and Car 2 were dispatched to a house fire at 37 Gay St. The fire went to 2 alarms, with mutual aid from Southborough and Hudson to the scene and to cover the stations.
  • Incident #2011-821: Engines 1 and 2, Rescue 1, Ladder 2 and Car 2 were dispatched to a reported possible building collapse at Rink 6 of the New England Sports Center. A large section of ice had slid off the roof. 
  • Incident #2011-836: Engine 2 responded to a motor vehicle fire at 18 Cross St.
  • Incident #2011- 917: A single car wood framed garage collapsed at 24 Bigelow St. due to the weight of the snow load on the roof.
