Here is a complete accounting of the calls the Marlborough Fire Department responded to over the past week, Sunday, Feb. 20-Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011.

The following are the responses from Feb. 20-26 , 2011.

  • Fire and CO responses: 39
  • EMS/Rescue Responses: 70
  • MVA responses: 8
  • Hazardous Condition responses: 7
  • Public service/Special responses: 12
  • MFD Incident responses through February 26th: 1104. That total is 166 calls ahead of 2010’s pace.

Selected Incidents: Car fires on the highways are particularly dangerous for fire personnel, as they have to contend with not only traffic on the way to the fire but the traffic that is trying to get by while they are fighting the fire. The following 2 incidents occurred within minutes of each other!

  • Incident #2011-1043:  Engine 1 was detailed to Route 495 Northbound for a car fire. Southborough Fire had also sent an Engine to the scene, as the fire was on the stretch of 495 between Route 9 and exit 24C
  • Incident #2011-1045:  Engine 2 was detailed to a car fire on the Route 290 Connector.
  • Incident # 2011-1088:  The firefighters of Engine 1, Group 2 were dispatched to a medical emergency at a Liberty Street residence. They had to contend with icy conditions and a steep driveway that prevented the paramedics from Patriot Ambulance in bringing the stretcher into the home. Rescue 1 was detailed to the scene to assist; and using the stokes rescue basket and rope, the patient was lowered to the street level utilizing the stokes basket as a sled. Once the patient was safely down, MFD and Patriot personnel used the rope to guide themselves to the street level.
